A fairly recent study by Adecco shows that 57% of workers in the US admit that they judge their coworkers based on the cleanliness of their workspace, and nearly half of respondents said that the have been “appalled” by a dirty office. In addition to this, we’re sure that you know firsthand how seriously a cluttered workspace can hamper productivity. To avoid the pitfalls of a dirty office, here are some office spring cleaning tips to keep your office in decent shape in between professional cleanings.
Desk Control
It’s a good idea to have everyone take a whack at their own workstations. Some ideas for cleaning desks include, but are not limited to:
- Attack every touchable surface with sanitizing wipes. There are a lot of germs that can accumulate on frequently touched surfaces like keyboards and phones, even if they’re one’s own germs.
- Use a microfiber cloth on electronics so as not to damage them
- Brushes, electrostatic dusters, or compressed air will get dust out of hard-to-reach nooks and crannies.
Take a Break, Then Take On the Break Room
If you let your break room get out of control messy, it could both start becoming a health hazard and start losing its relaxing “break” appeal. Break out the sponges, scouring pads, and all-purpose cleaners to shine up these areas:
- Empty the fridge and wipe down all the surfaces to eliminate any potential bacteria growth. While you’re at it, toss all the forgotten leftovers and expired perishables in the trash.
- Spills in the microwave can get pretty gross and pretty tough to clean once they’re cooked onto the bottom dozens of times. A hearty cleaner and some elbow grease will get ‘em off, but really you should wipe up spills when they happen to keep the microwave clean and sanitary.
