With the holidays right around the corner, many of us are starting to think about having company over. Even if your home isn’t the go-to location for family gatherings, you’re likely going to spend more time inside due to the colder weather. Either way, you’re probably thinking about holiday cleaning just like we are.
Regardless of whether or not you plan to host guests this holiday season, holiday cleaning is a good opportunity to give yourself a quick reset. It doesn’t mean deep cleaning your whole home (we usually save that for the spring), but it does mean tidying up some of the most-used spaces in your home. Let’s take a look at more holiday cleaning tips.
Entryway Cleaning
If you are having guests for the holidays, you certainly should make cleaning your entryway part of your holiday cleaning checklist. This is where first impressions happen so be sure to clear all of the clutter near your door, create space for jackets and shoes, and wipe down the walls to remove any scuffs that have accumulated over the years.
If you get snow, take the time to shovel your front walkway! It’s not just helpful for your guests, but it prevents you from getting injured too and may help reduce your liability if you’re responsible for keeping your sidewalk shoveled.
Living Areas
When the cold winter kicks in, you’re going to spend a lot of time in common areas like dining and living rooms, especially if you have guests over that are likely to congregate in these areas. Make sure you take the time to vacuum, sweep, and mop the floors. Keep any dusty surfaces clean with a microfiber duster or a damp cloth.
You should spend some time decluttering. Your living room may feel cozy and fit like a glove for you right now, but if you need some extra space for guests to spread out and plop a folding chair down, having clutter in the way can disrupt socializing.
Cleaning the Kitchen
Your kitchen is a good place to gather and entertain, but it’s also the engine that powers holiday gatherings. Decluttering and wiping down counters is a good place to start. You also want to spend some time organizing and decluttering any areas where you store food—your fridge, freezer, and pantry should all be cleared up so that you can cook and store any meals for the holidays.
