With COVID-19 still highly prevalent, you may be spending more time at home enjoying watching TV shows and movies or coordinating Zoom meetings with family and friends. While this is fine to do, you should also consider getting some spring cleaning done as we enter the new season.
Spring cleaning is good for any home, as it helps remove dirt, dust, and mold from the premises, and it can also help keep you safer against different types of bacteria and viruses. COVID-19 is still active around the world, but by following these spring cleaning tips, you can make your home a safer place.
Make Sure You Do Cleaning AND Disinfecting
Cleaning and disinfecting are terms that are commonly used when referring to keeping things hygienic, but did you know that cleaning and disinfecting have different meanings?
Cleaning refers to the removing of germs from surfaces. Viruses aren’t killed during cleaning, but you reduce the number of them your surface has. All it takes to get cleaning done is a little soap and water, both of which will work perfectly fine for combating COVID-19.
What’s different about disinfecting is that disinfecting actually kills germs. This is done after cleaning with the help of a chemical, and it lowers the chances of infection being spread. A common bleach solution works wonders for the disinfecting process. You can use four teaspoons of bleach with every quart of water to get the proper ratio for the solution. Allow your solution to remain on the surface for a minimum of one minute before you dry the area.
Use the Proper Products During Spring Cleaning
It’s not always easy to get whatever cleaning items you want right now. With COVID-19 still affecting everyone, cleaning products are practically flying off of the shelves, and you can’t always get what you’re trying to find.
Fortunately, there are all kinds of products you can use to defend yourself against the virus, and these include many commonplace household items. Bleach is perfect for non-porous surfaces. You could go with liquid bleach, but if that’s unavailable, bleach tablets also work.
Hydrogen peroxide is a non-chlorine bleach that works just fine as well. It’s non-toxic, and it still does wonders for disinfecting surfaces. Just make sure that children are kept away from harsh chemicals.
